December is filled with holidays.
Hannukah starts December 7 and ends December 15.
December 23 is Festivus. Remember Festivus? If you're old enough to remember Seinfeld, you're old enough to remember Festivus! Festivus is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 as an alternative to the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season.
December 24 is Christmas Eve; December 25 is Christmas.
Boxing Day is December 26.
Kwaanza is from December 26-January 1.
December 31 is New Year's Eve.
Some of the lesser known holidays deserve recognition, too. December 5 is International Volunteers Day. There are opportunities everywhere for volunteers: helping pack gifts for less fortunate people, volunteering at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen, visiting people in nursing homes or Veteran's hospitals who might not otherwise have any visitors.
December 4 is National Cookie Day, just in case anyone wants to bake cookies for us!
December 15 is National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day...get those ugly sweaters out and wear them proudly!
December 21 is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. From that day forward, the days will begin to be longer again.
